Community News

Karl Rosario Park

We’re excited to announce that after more than 10 years, Karl Rosario Park is getting a fresh new look! The new improvements will include:

  • A play structure themed after the park’s iconic 100-ft mural
  • A brand-new inclusive play structure for all ages and abilities
  • A modern swing set
  • Outdoor adult fitness equipment
  • Stay tuned for updates as we transform this beloved neighborhood park!

Memorial Park

We’re thrilled to share some upcoming improvements at Memorial Park:

50 New Trees!

Thanks to the Sacramento Tree Foundation, 50 new trees will be planted, adding shade, and environmental benefits to the park.

Exploring Disc Golf!

Staff are also considering the option of adding a 9-hole frisbee disc golf course. This would introduce a new leisure activity to our park system, with minimal installation and maintenance costs—while also supporting a more conservative approach to our water system.

Stay tuned for updates as we transform this beloved neighborhood park!

Freedom Park

Great news! Renovations at Freedom Park are about to begin! Thanks to American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funding, the park will soon receive a much-needed makeover. Updates will include replacing outdated pieces on both playground structures, upgrading the swing set, adding ADA-accessible features, and refreshing the splash pad with new amenities.

This project is expected to be completed by winter 2025/26.

Bocce Ball Court at Freedom!

We’re excited to announce the addition of a brand-new bocce ball court at Freedom Park! This project was made possible through the generous support and partnership of the Foothill-Highlands Rotary Club. The new court offers a fun and engaging activity for visitors of all ages, and we invite the community to come out and enjoy this exciting new feature. Click Here to rent Bocce Ball equipment!

70 Acts of Service

As we celebrate 70 years of parks, programs, and community impact, North Highlands Recreation & Park District (NHRPD) is marking this milestone with a year-long initiative focused on giving back: 70 Acts of Service.

This campaign is our way of saying thank you to the community that has supported us since 1955 — by continuing to invest in what makes North Highlands a great place to live, work, and play.

NHRPD will lead extra activities and service projects throughout the year to uplift our parks and neighborhoods — and we invite community members and local businesses to join in! Whether it’s picking up litter, helping a neighbor, supporting a nonprofit, or volunteering your time, every good deed counts.
