Hi everyone! My name is Amaya Barnes, and I am the new Recreation Coordinator for Sports & Aquatics at North Highlands Recreation and Parks District. I grew up participating in park district programs throughout the Sacramento area and developed my passion for aquatics while swimming with the Fulton-El Camino Stingrays and at Arden Hills. I earned my degree in Kinesiology with a minor in Recreation Administration from Sacramento State and have several years of experience managing fitness clubs and leading teams. I also currently serve as a four-time section championship high school swim coach at St. Francis Catholic High School. I am excited to be joining such a great team at NHRPD and look forward to the positive impact I can make within the community through sports and aquatics programming.
Holiday Closure
Our District Office will be closed on June 19th in observance of Juneteenth.
Paint the Parks
Our last Paint the Parks project is scheduled for June 24th at Cherry Blossom Park from 9am-12:00pm. Come and be apart of this award-winning program and help us end on a bang! Join us at our June Board Meeting on June 11th at 6:30pm to receive recognition from California Recreation and Park Society (CPRS) for our Paint the Parks program! This program received the 2025 CPRS Innovation Award of Excellence back in April and will now be presented to our community. Come on out to show your support!
Splash Pad Renovation
Exciting updates are coming to the splash pad this summer! New amenities will be installed, along with a fresh coat of paint to enhance the space. These improvements will bring even more fun and refreshing ways for the community to cool off and play all season long. The splash pad will be temporarily closed for approximately 3–5 days during construction (dates TBD). We appreciate your patience as we make these upgrades!
Freedom Park Pavilion Rentals
Freedom Park Pavilion rentals are available! Picnic sites are available to rent Sunday - Saturday through October. This location is excellent for a birthday party, family reunion, company picnic, or any social event that calls for some fun in the park. For further information, and to reserve a pavilion, please check out our website: www.nhrpd.org/freedom-park-pavilion-rentals
